Kent Gash to Direct Free Reading June 24
What: Hartford Stage will offer a free reading of Water by the Spoonful, a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist Quiara Hudes, commissioned as part of her year-long Aetna New Voices Fellowship at the Tony award-winning theatre. The play, which deals with addiction and recovery, is the second in a planned trilogy that began with her acclaimed play Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue. The reading will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24 at the Hartford Stage rehearsal studios in downtown Hartford. The Water by the Spoonful reading will be directed by Kent Gash.
Quiara Hudes wrote the book for In the Heights, which was awarded the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical. Her play, Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Her latest play, 26 Miles, premiered at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre in March 2009. Ms. Hudes' honors include the Lucille Lortel Award Award for Outstanding Musical, the HOLA Award for Achievement in Playwriting, and the Clauder Prize for her first play, Yemaya's Belly. She has degrees from Yale and Brown Universities, is a resident writer at New Dramatists, and a previous Page 73 Playwriting Fellow.

Where: The reading will be held at the Hartford Stage rehearsal studios in the Richardson Building, 942 Main Street, Hartford. The studios are on the second floor; enter beneath the Residence Inn awning and follow signs to the studios.
