We’re dedicated to making theatre accessible to as many community members as possible. We provide a variety of services to enhance the production for patrons with special needs. Please call the Box Office at 860-527-5151 to reserve special-needs seating and to discuss what services might be available to support you.

Handicapped accessibility

We have special seating for patrons in wheelchairs, and our ushers are trained to assist you. Our restrooms are also handicapped accessible.

Wireless listening systems

Ask for a headset at the Concierge desk if you require assistance in amplifying sound.

  Open Captioning Performances

Displayed on a text screen on one side of the stage and synchronized with the onstage performance, open captioning assists people with varying degrees of hearing loss as well as hearing audience members who might not catch every word during a performance. Support for open captioning at Hartford Stage is provided by the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving as recommended by Beatrice Koopman and by the J. Walton Bissell Foundation, Inc.Foundation, Inc.

Audio Described Performances

Using an assistive listening device, audience members who are blind or have low vision to hear descriptions of actions, body language, lights, costumes, scenery and other aspects of the production not conveyed by voices from the stage.
